Now tell me, would you put butter on your face as a cosmetic cream?
I guarantee your answer is going to be no, so why would you put an over the counter brand of moisturiser on your face?…
because there is little difference in the effect that butter or a cosmetic brand will have on your skin.
Let me explain….
There is a vast difference between medical skincare products and cosmetic skincare products. The mega difference is what they spend their profit on.
Cosmetic brands such Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, Clinique, Clarins, along with multiple up and coming new beauty brands, spend their money on advertising, more advertising and celebrity endorsements, whilst promising you a magnificent outcome.
Medical grade skincare companies such as ZO Skin Health and Alumier spend their money on clinical trials which prove the efficacy of certain ingredients for certain skin issues. This takes years of research and testing to ensure that the outcome is one that is physically possible. eg pigmentation reduction
The ingredients in medical brands are pharmaceutical grade and have an proven action in various skin cells. Anything that is not medically registered is not legally allowed to have an action.
The claims that cosmetic companies make are very cleverly worded to make the lay person believe that they are specially formulated for the problem that the potential buyer is having for example “Proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles” The key word here is appearance.
A medical skincare product can legally claim to “reduce the fine lines and wrinkles”. Note, it can actually reduce the fine line and wrinkle rather than just make it look reduced superficially.
This is true as it has a specific delivery system designed to pull the ingredients down to the basal epidermal cells. These cells are the living layer of cells which should create healthy skin. With generic moisturisers these cells will not be fed, therefore resulting in your skin not getting the nutrients it needs to be healthy and strong.
I hope this makes sense to you and have put a link in for you to watch and see what you think.
If you’re still looking to go down the off the shelf cosmetic route.. please do.
but let me tell you, you may as well put butter on your face 🙂
